I Can't Believe This Is Happening

“And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.”Genesis 15:6.

I sat with the director. Pen in hand, I stared at the application. This had been my plan for months. After taking a tour I didn't know if I could do it. Not after seeing what it really looked like.

It all started with the cafeteria. When I imagined sending my baby girl off to Pre-K, images of her sitting at a brown adult sized cafeteria table never entered my mind.

We left the lunchroom and made our way to the Pre-K classrooms. We stood in the hall and watched through the small window on the door. A young girl with a long pony-tail slowly walked around the room holding a yardstick toward the ceiling. Her classmates were cheering her on as she used the yardstick to point along the walls and count to 100.

It was a lot to take in. Questions and emotions flooded my mind.

I panicked and left with the blank application.

These kids were so big and so brave. How was my little girl ever going to be able to do the things they were doing? Would she thrive there? Would she be happy? Was it too much too soon?

I decided my daughter isn't ready to graduate Pre-K today. But she is ready to start.

I’ll never know what number the girl with the long pony-tail could count to on her first day of Pre-K. I can only wonder if her mom was also nervous when she packed her little girl’s very first lunch and dropped her off.

We usually only hear and see what people become. We forget that everyone is scared and has a lot to learn when they first begin.

When Abraham bravely took his son Isaac up the mountain to be given as a sacrifice to God, that was Abraham’s graduation moment. Abraham’s starting point was when he didn’t trust God to give him a son.

God had been asking Abraham to trust Him for years. Sometimes he did. Sometimes he didn't. Each time he trusted God, his faith grew. After years of trusting God with different things, Abraham was able to fully trust when God asked him to give Isaac as an offering.

Our key verse speaks of Abraham when it states, “And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.” Genesis 15:6.

What does believing the Lord mean for you today?

Maybe believing the Lord means beginning that Bible study with friends. Maybe believing the Lord means finally starting or serving with that ministry. Maybe believing the Lord means knowing Him more.

Whatever it is, He wants to use us where we are.

We are not supposed to be graduates yet. We just have to be willing to start.
